Kasper *2004- 20.03.2015

Born around 2004 on Fuerteventura, died March 20, 2015
I’ve tried many times to express what Kasper means to me, but ultimately words are too pale and only Kasper and I know how much it really is. One thing is for sure – it exists: love at first sight and true love. And sometimes even in one person. Thank you for everything, Kasper.
“The reality is that you will grieve forever. You will not ‘get over’ the loss of a loved one; you will learn to live with it. You will heal and you will rebuild yourself around the loss you have suffered. You will be whole again but you will never be the same. Nor should you be the same nor would you want to.”

Goodbye, you stubborn girl.
You see the sun setting and yet you are shocked when it suddenly gets dark.

Lorena *1999- 6.04.2013

Dear Lorena,
There is so much to say about you: gentleness is definitely the first word that comes to mind when I think of you. You came to us as a foster dog about four years ago: old, with cancer that was already inoperable at the time, physically and mentally exhausted. Used up and thrown away by a hunter, ended up in a kill shelter on Fuerte, rescued by the Fuerteventura animal welfare organization and cared for by the Wittwer family (Finca Esquinzo) until you came to us in 2009.
Your unconditional love and trust from the very beginning were so enormous that I was sometimes speechless. It will always remain a mystery to me how people like you can give so much after having only seen the ugly side of humanity for more than half a dog’s life.
Every morning you stood behind me and greeted me in your own way: just pressing your head very lightly against my legs from behind until I turned around to stroke you. In fact, you were always right next to me or behind me. You never expressed your displeasure about anything or argued with anyone – we never found out what your voice sounded like. Everyone here respected you immediately and enjoyed your calm charisma. It would be impossible to let you move again. This was your home.
I thank you for these years – it was a great honor to have had you with us. R.I.P.
Thanks again to Heike Ebert and the Wittwer family, without whom this truly special dog would never have been saved! Thanks also to Aart, who took these photos the day before yesterday, which are so characteristic of our relationship.
